Circle of Trust

How asymmetric is your relationship network at Google Plus?
Is there a way to visualize how each person is using and constructing this social environment?

With these two questions in mind, we want to give you a good real example of how the brand new Google+ API can be used now at its early stages. The idea came from something that our friend Jack Byrnes, character of the movie Meet the Parents, likes to call The Circle of Trust. With a free interpretation of Jack’s theory, we made a simple algorithm to visualize who are the people that are inside your circle of trust and who are the people out.

It all boils down to this: Green are the people you have circled and they have circled you back, yellow is for people that you cared to circle but they didn’t, and red is for people that have circled you but you didn’t care to circle back.

The Circle of Trust is an interface data-visualization experiment using Google+ API and HTML5.

the app is down right now apparently

Edson | 11/10/2011 | 16:18

Hey Anon, I’ve tested it right now and it’s working! :)

KZ | 11/10/2011 | 16:32

It only shows people that I’ve circled. Any idea when it will be back up?

Jennifer | 11/10/2011 | 18:13

I’ve signed in using my google account, but it says that I don’t have anyone in my circles, which is untrue.

Data Anxiety | 12/10/2011 | 7:59

I think the app is down again. It just shows me in a circle of blue, surrounded by grey dashed concentric circles.

Next Century Sean | 14/10/2011 | 14:05

Worked for me…mindblowingly fabulous!

Dwerf | 16/10/2011 | 16:45

Yes, it’s down :-(

Luis | 21/10/2011 | 10:53

It is not working properly. It shows in yellow people that are mutually circled with me

Edson | 21/10/2011 | 15:32

Sorry Luis, if you have more than 6.000 connections it cant work properly yet.

JA | 23/10/2011 | 1:35

Doesn’t work for me. Just gives me that I’m by myself, and everyone else has circled me.

Pearl | 25/10/2011 | 22:48

Sadly, it’s just me swimming in a sea of red… I know I’m more social than that!

mario | 27/10/2011 | 6:05

Huh? I only got red circles, not a single green or yellow! This is BROXORZ.

mario | 28/10/2011 | 7:27

Still broken.

gonzalo | 02/11/2011 | 20:23

how do you find friend connections on the g+ api? they do not openly support circles :(

ArtZub | 07/08/2012 | 8:14

And what do you use Google API to obtain information about people that “in your circle” and people who “have you in circle”? Which Google API for plus need used for this goals?

Alessandro | 07/11/2012 | 9:00

Hi great tool! Is it possible to export the G+ connections (eg in txt format)?

Thanks a lot

Edson | 07/11/2012 | 15:56

Hello Alesandro,

Thanks for commenting. :)
For now, this project is more an experiment than a tool, so unfortunately we do not have a option to export.
But i’ll keep it in the list for future improvements. Thanks a lot for your support.
